The island of Vir in Croatia is one of the most beautiful and idyllic holiday destinations in the country. It
is located in northern Dalmatia and the size of 22km2, is one of the smaller holiday islands in Croatia.
The unique beaches of Vira make this island a real paradise for swimming. It is difficult to find a higher
density of beautiful sandy beaches anywhere in Croatia, which many tourists appreciate. The island is
connected to the mainland of the Zadar region by a bridge about 300 meters long. As a tourist, you can
enjoy the unique feeling of the island and be mobile enough to explore the beautiful Zadar region by car
or bus without a ferry.
Vir is fairly flat and therefore good for cycling. The highest
point is the 112 meter high “mountain” Barbinjak to which beautiful promenades lead. The most
important sights of the island of Vir are the enchanting chapel of St. Juraj, the Venetian fortress Kaštelina
(17th century fortress) and the Lanterna lighthouse, which is currently run as a particularly luxurious
holiday accommodation.
The most impressive part of the island is certainly the coast to the north. Here you will find spectacular
red rocks with turquoise blue colors of the sea and countless sandy beaches. Along the coast there are
mountain biking and hiking trails where you can enjoy these picturesque natural landscapes.
